The sanskrit word yoga means union, this can refer to the union of mind, body and soul, the union of individual and higher conciousness.
Yoga is dated back approximately 5000BC., it is not a religion, it is a path which unites many factors in an individual’s life. Combining the physical asanas (postures) with breathing and meditation yoga can offer a way to increase awareness of body, self and the world and create balance between them.
Yoga has many benefits and the experience can be different to everyone, however yoga should not be restricted to gender, age or physical ability.
